The top sports events to watch on TV over the coming days.
NBA Awards Show
When: 8 p.m. Monday TV: TNT Who will win the MVP trophy? James Harden? Russell Westbrook? LeBron James? It has been awhile since the regular season ended, but the NBA is doing everything it can to keep fans’ interest for as long as it can. Next up: Summer League.
Mexico vs. Russia
When: 7 a.m. Saturday TV: Fox Group A play in soccer’s Confederations Cup, a prelude to the 2018 World Cup in Russia, enters its final day with a marquee matchup between Mexico and host Russia at Kazan.
Brewers at Braves
When: 3:10 p.m. Saturday TV: FS1 Milwaukee has been holding off defending World Series champion Chicago in the NL Central. Two other nationally televised games involve the Pirates at Cardinals — 6:15 p.m. Saturday on Fox and 7 p.m. Sunday on ESPN. If you want to watch the NL Central, this is your weekend.
FC Dallas at Dynamo
When: 8 p.m. Friday TV: KFTH This has become a heated rivalry on and off the field. Dynamo fans were reprimanded for alleged misbehavior the last time the two teams met in Frisco. You can bet they will be fired up for this match between two of the best teams in the MLS West. Let’s hope the action remains on the field this time.
Dash at Pride
When: 3 p.m. Saturday TV: Lifetime Even with Carli Llloyd’s return, the Dash lost to Orlando 4-2 last Saturday at home. Now they travel to Orlando for the rematch against Marta’s team.
College World Series
When: Friday-Wednesday TV: ESPN Finalists for the best-of-three series Monday at 6 p.m., Tuesday at 7 p.m. and, if necessary, Wednesday at 7 p.m. could be determined as soon as Friday, although elimination rounds might linger through Saturday.
Toyota/SaveMart 350
When: 2 p.m. Sunday TV: FS1 NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series moves to the wine country in Sonoma, Calif. Kyle Larson, who won last weekend at Michigan, will be going for his third victory of the season. Chase Elliott, as usual, is expected to be in the chase.
Travelers Championship
When: Friday-Sunday TV: Golf Channel (Friday), CBS (Saturday, Sunday) Many top players take off the week after the U.S. Open to rest. But this year’s field at TPC River Highlands in Connecticut includes two of the world’s top three, Jason Day and Rory McIlroy, and Jordan Spieth.
NFL Top 100 countdown
10 When: 9 a.m. Saturday TV: NFL Network The network’s experts continue counting down the top 100 players from last season. This week, they will reveal the players’ voting on Nos. 11-20. The Texans have had two players ranked so far — J.J. Watt at No. 35 and Jadeveon Clowney (49).
