JAMES L. COOK

1930-2017

A loving husband and father passed away June 27, 2017.

He was born in 1930 in Tecula, Texas, a suburb of Jacksonvil­le, Texas to Ira and Mildred Cook. After graduating from Crockett High School in 1948, he went to work on different jobs in the Pipeline Constructi­on Industries until 1952. In 1949, he met Juanita Vaughan Knight. They dated and fell in love. They were married March 18th. 1950. Juanita was a widow with a three year old daughter. James adopted Linda Sue Knight. In 1952, James Stephen Cook was born and they moved to Deer Park, TX. He went to work at Shell Oil Company. James worked there until 1983 and retired after 31 years.

During that time, he held different community services. He was in the fire Department, on the planning and zoning Commission and Deer Park City Council for 12 years. After that he and his family traveled to many states and countries to play golf and see many wonderful things. James lived in Deer Park until 1997, when he moved to Bentwater in Montgomery County until 2007 when he moved back to Deer Park, TX.

James and Juanita were members of First Baptist Church in Deer Park. He was also a member of the Deer Park Masonic Lodge #1362. James is survived by his wife Juanita Cook, son James Stephen Cook and wife Maria R Cook, grandson Eric Ramirez, great-grandson Dylan & great granddaugh­ter Raina; Also Grandson Vaughan Penny and wife Norma Penny, great grandson Evan Penny, granddaugh­ter Alexandria Penny and great granddaugh­ter Krystal Penny.

A memorial service will be held at Forest Park Funeral Home, 6900 Lawndale, Houston, Texas. Viewing will be from 11:00 – 12:00; funeral will be from 12:00 – 1:00 pm on June 30th, 2017.
