ELIZABETH ALLEN

1942-2017

-

Elizabeth Ida (Glor) Allen was born in Batavia, NY on 9/26/1942 and died in Houston, TX on 6/27/2017. She was the daughter of Ora Elizabeth (Putney Glor (Newton) and Eldon Merritt Glor. She married Hugh Daryl Allen, MD, on 6/20/1964 in Grand Island, NY.

She is survived by sons Clark Eldon Allen, of Portland, OR (married to Jana Leanne (Westran) Allen, son Christopher Jeremiah Allen), Carl Eugene Allen, of Houston, TX (married to Hillary Brooke Boswell, children Stella Elizabeth Allen and Adam Hugh Allen), and Lloyd Hugh Allen of Baltimore, MD (married to Jean Adair Milstein); siblings Bernice (Glor) Pagliaro of Santa Barbara CA, Barbara (Glor) Martin and Ellen (Glor) Dunston of Columbus OH, Peter J. Glor of Santa Clarita CA, and Eugene Glor of Rochester, NY, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Elizabeth was a wonderful, caring wife, mother, and grandmother (aka “Gaga”). She attended Otterbein College (BA in Education), where she met Hugh.

She later attended The Ohio State University, where she earned a Masters of Arts in Education as a reading specialist. Elizabeth taught in elementary schools in Cincinnati OH, Minneapolis MN, and Columbus OH. She treasured her students. In Arizona, she was elected President of the Catalina Foothills School Board. She served as a Trustee and President of the Alumni Association for Otterbein College.

Elizabeth loved spending time with her family and in her gardens, and made lifelong friendships on every journey. She taught gold panning in Sabino Canyon, hiked the Grand Canyon, started internationally competitive chess teams (without playing chess), and created a home that welcomed all.

She gracefully fought a devastating neuromuscular disease that eventually claimed her. As the pillar of our family, she will be sorely missed.

A service will be held at Church of the Master United Methodist Church in Westerville, Ohio on August 5, 2017. She will be interred at the Otterbein Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Charles Botts Scholarship fund, Otterbein College, 1 Grove Street, Westerville, Ohio, 43081; to Texas Children’s Hospital, Department of Pediatric Cardiology, Office of Development, Ste. 5214, PO Box 300630, Houston TX 77230-0630; or to the HistioCure Foundation (histiocure.org).
