Burn Your Buns Bike
Ride Tuesday, presented by The Woodlands Cycling Club and Lake Conroe Rotary Club, offers distances of 20, 31 and 62 miles. The course is a back-roads tour that begins at Bridgewood Farms, 11680 Rose Rd. in Conroe, and leads to Shepherd Hill and back. The ride raises operational funds for Bridgewood Farms, a nonprofit in Montgomery County providing day programs, after school programs and respite care for individuals with special needs and their families. Juried art show “Art of the Bicycle”
opens Saturday at the Houston Bicycle Museum, 1313 Binz, with a reception from 6 to 9 p.m. Original paintings, sculptures and photography by local and international artists are featured. Heat Wave 5-mile run begins Tuesday morning at 511 S. Whiting St. in Baytown. Net proceeds go to the Baytown Special Rodeo Association for its annual western themed day of activities and entertainment for mentally and/or physically challenged children and their families. The Heat Wave is run mostly on flat, concrete/asphalt-surfaced streets through the southwestern section of Baytown, encompassing Bicentennial Park, the City Hall Complex and residential areas. King Daddy Black Tornadoes
won the 18 & under advanced Houston Tennis Association Junior Team Tennis Sectionals in Beaumont and will advance to the national championships in Orlando in September at the USTA’s new national campus. Jane Strnadel and Selim Samman are the captains of the team composed of Melissa LaMette, Megan Grace Flores, Alex Gee, Maya Smith, Michael Olayemi Raji, Andrew Stephen Esses and Corbin Daniel Hayes.
