Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley is named to MLS All-Star Game.

Dynamo defender DaMarcus Beasley on Friday was named to the MLS All-Star Fan XI for the Aug. 2 All-Star Game against Real Madrid at Soldier Field in Chicago.

It is Beasley’s second All-Star selection as a Dynamo player and his fifth overall.

The other players in the Fan XI are Colorado goalkeeper Tim Howard, Atlanta defender Greg Garza, Kansas City defender Graham Zusi, Chicago midfielder Bastian Schweinste­iger, Atlanta midfielder Miguel Almirón, Orlando City midfielder Kaká, Toronto midfielder Michael Bradley, New York City forward David Villa, Chicago forward Nemanja Nikoli and Toronto forward Sebastian Giovinco.

The roster will be comprised of 22 players. MLS commission­er Don Garber will select two players, and All-Star coach Veljko Paunovic will pick the remaining nine players. In other soccer news: • The San Jose Earthquake­s said Matheus Silva emerged from a coma Thursday morning, two days after the Brazilian defender was rescued from Lake Tahoe. He was responsive and able to speak but will undergo additional testing. The 20-year-old was playing this season on loan for Reno 1868 FC, which is part of the United Soccer League. Silva struggled while swimming at a Fourth of July gathering. He was pulled from the water by teammates and bystanders but was unresponsi­ve and did not have a pulse.

• Barcelona star Lionel Messi and his father can avoid prison for tax fraud by paying an extra fine, a Spanish court said. Instead of Messi serving his 21-month sentence, the Argentina forward will be fined an extra $287,000. The Barcelona-based court also ruled that Messi’s father Jorge Horacio Messi will be fined an extra $205,000 instead of serving his 15-month sentence. Last year, a court found Messi and his father each guilty of three counts of defrauding tax authoritie­s of $4.6 million from 2007-09.

Another day, another victory for Marcel Kittel in the Tour de France.

Only this time, the German nearly made his move too late and edged Edvald Boasson Hagen of Norway in a photo finish to win his third stage — and second in two days — at Nuits-Saint-Georges, France.

Three-time champion Chris Froome will wear the yellow jersey into the mountains this weekend.

MOTOR SPORTS Kyle Busch gets pole, track mark

Kyle Busch set a track record to earn his first Kentucky Speedway pole before thundersto­rms shortened NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series qualifying at Sparta.

Busch, a two-time winner of Saturday night’s 400-mile race, clocked 190.282 mph in the No. 18 Toyota for his third pole this season.

Martin Truex Jr. will start second with Busch’s JGR teammate Matt Kenseth third as Toyotas claimed four of the top five spots in the 40-car field. In other news: • Friday night’s Xfinity Series race at Kentucky Speedway was postponed and reschedule­d for 11 a.m. CDT Saturday after severe thundersto­rms threatened the area shortly before the green flag. The postponeme­nt follows Thursday night’s rain-delayed Camping World Truck Series race that began three hours late and concluded early Friday. Kyle Busch, who will be on the pole for Saturday night’s Cup race, also has the top spot for the Xfinity race.

GOLF Munoz retains Greenbrier lead

Sebastian Munoz shot a 3-under-par 67 to lead Ben Martin and Hudson Swafford by three strokes after the second round of The Greenbrier Classic at White Sulphur Springs, W.Va.

Munoz, a 24-year-old Colombian, continued his solid play after an openingrou­nd 61. He heads into the weekend at 12-under 128. Martin shot 67, and Swafford had a 66.

Davis Love III, seeking to become the oldest winner on the PGA Tour at age 53, shot 69 and is at 8 under. In other news: • Rory McIlroy missed the cut at the Irish Open for the fourth time in five years. McIlroy shot 1-over 73 in his second round over the links at Portstewar­t, Northern Ireland and was 1 over for the tournament. He was four strokes below the cut mark and 14 strokes behind co-leaders Benjamin Hebert and Daniel Im, both of whom shot 67.

• Katherine Kirk shot a career-best 9-under 63 to take a three-stroke lead in the weather-delayed second round of the inaugural Thornberry Creek LPGA Classic. The 35-year-old Australian played the back nine in 7-under 29 at Thornberry Creek, the Oneida Nation-owned resort near Green Bay, Wis. She is 13 under through two rounds.

BOXING WBO to rescore Pacquiao-Horn

The World Boxing Organizati­on will rescore the Manny PacquiaoJe­ff Horn welterweig­ht title fight because of the con-tentious unanimous decision awarded to the Australian challenger, but there is no plan to change the result.

The WBO was responding to a Philippine­s government department’s request to review the fight after Pacquiao said the decision against him Sunday was unfair.

The fight at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium was scored 117-111 by Waleksa Roldan and 115-113 each by Chris Flores and Ramon Cerdan.

10-run inning powers Skeeters

Derek Miller’s grand slam highlighte­d a 10-run fourth inning in which 15 Skeeters batted as Sugar Land routed Somerset 12-0 in Atlantic League play at Bridgewate­r, N.J.

Kevin Ahrens also homered in the eighth for the Skeeters.
