1964-2017

-

Nancy P. Owens, 52 of Florida, passed away on July 6, 2017 in Lauderhill. She was brought back to Houston to be buried with her loving and supportive parents, Paul and Nancy Owens.

Nancy was a special kind of girl, she has overcome many obstacles in life being born with Down Syndrome, but she did not let that hold her back from anything she wanted to achieve in life.

Nancy graduated from Bellaire High School in 1984 with her parents and favorite teacher, Mrs. Bobbie Reed to push her to do her best and complete all tasks at hand. Nancy was very involved with Special Olympics for majority of her life as a child and through adulthood. She was the swimmer of all times, winning many medals though all her years. She loved to run track and play basketball competing with others her age and abilities.

Nancy moved to Florida with her cousin, Nancy Green to meet her extended family there after the passing of her mom in 2011. She traveled as an adult with the Special Olympics to North Carolina to snow ski and took many cruises. When Nancy decided she wanted to live on her own she went to Serenity Group Home in Lauderhill, FL with Nicole Edwards as one of the owners/caregivers in the home that Nancy adored. With all the good things Nancy has done in life she had a great wit about her, with her most famous words “That’s a good idea” that must have kept her with the will to continue her path.

Nancy is survived by her cousins, Nancy Green and husband Charlie, Charles Walker and wife Ruth, Eileen Lewis, Doug Walker, Jean Alice McDavid and husband Robert, John Walker and wife Bonnie; multiple second cousins and loving friends. She is preceded in death by her cousin, Michael Walker.
