17-year-old killed in driveby on Sunnyside street

A boy died just days before his 18th birthday after he was shot late Thursday on a street in Sunnyside.

The teenager — who has not been identified — was hanging out with friends just before midnight in the 5000 block of Northridge when a darkcolored car drove by, said detective Kyle Heaverlo with the Houston Police Department.

The car initially passed the teens, then doubled back. At least one person inside the car fired at the group, hitting the 17-yearold, Heaverlo said. He died during surgery at Ben Taub Hospital.
