Roadrunner facts

Official name: Greater roadrunner. It’s a member of the cuckoo family, like the migratory yellow-billed cuckoo. Markings: Bluish-black head; brownish back with black, tawny and white markings; and streaking on breast. Range: Southern California across to Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and Louisiana. Habits: Forms long-term monogamous pairs and renews the relationsh­ip each spring with courtship display. Both sexes vigorously defend breeding and foraging grounds.
