BRAVES-TWINS TRADE

Hoping to bolster its rotation for a playoff run, Minnesota on Monday acquired veteran lefthanded pitcher Jaime García, catcher Anthony Recker and cash considerations from Atlanta for minor league righthander Huascar Ynoa.

García, 31, is 66-52 with a 3.65 ERA and 808 strikeouts in 176 appearances, mostly with St. Louis (2008, 2010-16).

Garcia is 4-7 with a 4.30 ERA, 41 walks and 85 strikeouts in 18 starts for Atlanta this year.

As it stands, Garcia will slot in as the No. 3 starter behind Ervin Santana and Jose Berrios, and likely ahead of Adalberto Mejia and Hector Santiago, when he returns from a rehab assignment.

Recker, 33, has appeared in 206 major league games with four teams, including the past two seasons in Atlanta.

Ynoa, 19, has a career minor league record of 5-11 with a 3.05 ERA, 54 walks and 118 strikeouts in 30 starts. PADRES-ROYALS TRADE

Contending Kansas City has acquired three pitchers from San Diego, getting starter Trevor Cahill, closer Brandon Maurer and reliever Ryan Buchter.

Kansas City sent pitchers Matt Strahm and Travis Wood, minor league infielder Esteury Ruiz and cash to San Diego.

Cahill was 4-3 with a 3.69 ERA in 11 starts.

Maurer is 20-for-23 on save tries, and 1-4 overall.

Buchter is 3-3 with one save and a 3.05 ERA in 42 games.

1B Chris Davis was out of the lineup at Tampa Bay because of an illness.

Manager Buck Showalter said before Monday’s game that Davis would be checked by a Rays doctor.

Class AAA All-Star catcher Brett Nicholas was recalled from Round Rock.

Catcher Robinson Chirinos left Sunday’s game with a sprained left ankle after a collision at the plate. X-rays were negative.
