Kubiak to advise, scout for Broncos

-

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — Gary Kubiak’s separation from the NFL is over.

Kubiak is returning to the Denver Broncos in a scouting capacity seven months after stepping down as their coach over health concerns.

Kubiak, 56, will serve as a senior personnel adviser, scouting college and pro players. He will be based out of his Houston home and make periodic trips to Broncos headquarters for personnel meetings, general manager John Elway said Tuesday.

“With as much experience as he has evaluating players, Gary’s going to be a tremendous resource for our personnel department,” Elway said. “He’ll primarily help on the college side and assist us in free agency as well.”

Kubiak, who was Texans coach for eight seasons, went 24-11 in two seasons as Broncos coach, guiding the team to a win over the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50 in his first season.

Whitehead’s ID was used in heist

Former Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Lucky Whitehead’s identity was falsely used in a shoplifting arrest, police in his home state of Virginia said.

Prince William County police said they were confident the man charged in a case involving $40 worth of stolen food and drink from a convenience store in June wasn’t Whitehead.

The Cowboys released him Monday after reports that he was arrested and subsequently cited for missing a court hearing.

Cowboys executive vice president of personnel Stephen Jones and coach Jason Garrett said Whitehead’s release was an accumulation of events.

Jury acquits Cowboys rookie

A jury in Ann Arbor, Mich., acquitted Dallas Cowboy rookie cornerback Jourdan Lewis of domestic assault.

The former Michigan player, 21, was accused of assaulting his former girlfriend at his Ann Arbor apartment in March.
