HAL MYRON ZIMMERMAN
1930-2017
Hal Myron Zimmerman passed from this life on August 16, 2017. Born on May 29, 1930 in Antlers, Oklahoma to Frances Unger Zimmerman and Harry Zimmerman, Hal grew up in Antlers with his brother Fred in a quintessential small town environment. As the only Jewish family in Antlers, Hal was active in sports and was raised with a strong religious faith. Hal attended the University of Oklahoma for two years before serving in Korea with the US Army. Hal then studied accounting at the University of Texas at Austin.
After obtaining his CPA and working in public accounting, Hal had numerous commercial undertakings including many years with Triumph Industries, Pace Management, Weekly Homes and founding his own business, Zest Homes. Hal was an active member of Temple Emanu El for many years during which he served a term as President of the Brotherhood, was a Past President of the Houston Homebuilders Association and was active in the Houston Rotary, where he served as a Chair of the Lombardi Awards Dinner.
Hal met and married Sheila Hamovit when they were at UT and together they raised four children: Harry, Bruce, Keith and Felice. In addition to being survived by all of his children and their spouses Cindy, Nancy, Linda and Pat, Hal is also survived by ten grandchildren: Amy and Bryan, Eric, Adam, Brett, Cole, Ryan, Tracy, Julian and Stella, as well as one newborn great grandson, Charles. Hal is also survived by his brother Fred and his wife Marlene and their four children and numerous grandchildren. Hal was also married to Rochelle Harberg, was a longtime companion to Glenda Lightfoot, and had a lovely relationship with Shirley Dimmig in the later years of his life.
Graveside services will be held at 10 am, Sunday, August 20th at Temple Emanu El cemetery. A gathering for friends and family will be held after services on Sunday.
Hal will be remembered as a strong, independent man with an engaging personality. He will be missed by his children and grandchildren.
