Add Blue to the growing list of injured RBs

- Aaron Wilson

NEW ORLEANS — Texans backup running back Alfred Blue suffered a high-ankle sprain during a joint practice session with the New Orleans Saints, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

The hope is that the 6-2, 225-pound former LSU standout will be able to return soon, but when Blue will return is undetermined. Blue had been having an impressive preseason until this injury, which is expected to sideline him for at least the remainder of the preseason.

During the Texans’ preseason opener against the Panthers, Blue had a 16-yard touchdown run. He rushed for with 33 yards on five carries. He has 53 yards on 10 carries heading into the third preseason game Saturday night against the Saints.

Blue rushed for 420 yards last season, including a seasonhigh 73 yards on 21 carries and a game-winning 24-yard touchdown run during a 12-10 win over the Bengals.

In three NFL seasons, Blue has rushed for 1,646 yards and five touchdowns and caught 42 passes for 262 yards.

Well-traveled Todman to join the RB ranks

The Texans are signing former New York Jets running back and kick returner Jordan Todman, according to a source not authorized to speak publicly.

Todman averaged 29.9 yards per kickoff return last season for the Indianapolis Colts. For his career, he has averaged 26.6 yards per return.

Todman is a former Chargers sixth-round draft pick from Connecticut. He has also played for the Vikings, Jaguars, Panthers and Steelers.

The Texans have several injuries at running back, including D’Onta Foreman (groin), Alfred Blue (ankle) and Akeem Hunt (hamstring). Rookie running back Dare Ogunbowale, who was treated by trainers Thursday, avoided serious injury.

Todman, 27, has rushed for 531 yards and three career touchdowns. He has caught 40 passes for 314 yards and two scores.

Injured rookie Pratt placed on waivers

The Texans waived injured rookie linebacker Dayon Pratt.

Pratt, who has an ankle injury, will revert to injured reserve if he clears waivers.
