Tony Rodriguez has been alone since Thursday night, save for his two cats, both of which are “terrified of these lightning storms.”

His partner is a male nurse who was on call at Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston when things started getting bad.

“He’s been stuck there ever since,” Rodriguez, 30, says. “Still waiting for him to get back. I’m just glad he’s safe.”

Rodriguez lives in League City, where he says flooding, like so many places in the city, has been a huge problem.

“The entire road of 96 from Highway 3 to 45 is underwater, a good 2-to-3 feet deep,” Rodriguez says. “Streets are blocked off both ways. Cars are still stuck and I’ve been seeing rescues from my apartment balcony.

“It’s sad to see a city I grew up in like this.”

Luckily, the only damage he’s sustained has been water seeping into his car.

“That’s replaceable,” he says. “Nothing I would fret over.”

Rodriguez has passed the time with lots of movies — specifically, horror classics.

He’s watched “Annabelle,” about the demonic doll, to help piece together puzzles in the current prequel. Rodriguez has also been enjoying a marathon dedicated to Tobe Hooper, the Austin-born director of “The Texas Chainsaw Massacre” who died Saturday.

Next up on the schedule? The 1982 “Poltergeist” original directed by Hooper. With the cats by his side, of course.

“I’ve always been a fan of horror movies, since I was a young kid,” Rodriguez says. “They have always created some kind of adrenaline rush for me. Even though it’s not real, it’s like facing your fears and taking them head on and not feeling so scared.

“It does help to take my mind off of what’s really going on right now.”
