Coldplay sends musical support in the form of ‘Houston’

Coldplay had to postpone its tour stop in Houston last week due to the approaching Hurricane Harvey, but the British rock band took time to write a song dedicated to the people of Houston.

The group performed the song at its concert Monday night at Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium.

Frontman Chris Martin took a break in the show to tell the Miami crowd about the concert postponement in Houston and all that Texas is going through with Hurricane Harvey.

“This is because we all grew up loving country music, and of course, that’s kind of what we think of when we go to Texas,” Martin said. “So, if you’ll bear with us, this is a new song, and we’ll never play this again. It’s a once off, and it’s called ‘Houston.’ We’re gonna sing it in Miami for everybody here, and we’re gonna send it over there to everyone who missed the show.”

The crowd loudly cheered that sentiment, and then Martin unveiled the song, which hopefully he’ll get to sing at least one more time if the band gets to make up the postponed concert back in Houston. No date has been set yet for a rescheduled concert. The band is touring North America through October before heading to South America in November.
