PEGGY JOYCE (SHELTON) LESLIE

Peggy Joyce (Shelton) Leslie was born July 2, 1930, the youngest daughter of John Leonard and Emma Eula (Greene) Shelton. She was preceded in death by her parents, her 12 brothers and sisters, and her husband of 49 years, Frank Reed Leslie. She is survived by eight children,18 grandchild­ren and 12 great-grandchild­ren.

Peggy graduated from Sunset High School in Dallas in 1947, attending SMU for two years while working as a secretary at Lederle Laboratori­es. She and Frank were married on June 6, 1951, with their first seven children, born by May 1959 and the youngest, in March 1965. Initially, Frank and Peggy lived with Peggy’s father in Dallas, later moving to a house that Frank built. From 1959-1966, Peggy and her family lived in Littleton, CO; Richardson, TX; Kent, WA; Huntsville, AL and Slidell, LA. In 1966, Peggy and her family moved to 15722 Torrey Pines Road in Clear Lake City, where she lived until her death on 23 August 2017.

Peggy received a B.A. in Elementary Education in 1974 from the University of Houston. After graduation she worked for the State of Texas, Department of Child Welfare, initially in Child Day Care licensing and later in Foster Care and Adoptions. She retired from the State of Texas in 1992 and was widowed in 2000.

Peggy had two passions in addition to her large extended family. She was very involved with her church, Clear Lake Presbyteri­an Church, where she worked as the church secretary for several years. She worked extensivel­y as a clown with Cheerful Clown Alley as “Aggie” and “Yo-Yo”, winning numerous awards for her work with them.

A Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday September 4 at the Clear Lake Presbyteri­an Church, 1511 El Dorado Boulevard, Houston. In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributi­ons be sent to the Church.
