Life Enrichment announces programs

-

Two local authors will highlight programs this fall for Life Enrichment of Houston (LEOH), the learning experience for senior adults. LEOH will hold registration from 10 a.m. to noon on Thursday, Sept. 21, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 3511 Linkwood.

Cost is $20 for the eight-week program of classes and Town Hall lectures each Thursday from Sept. 28 to Nov. 16 at the church. A light lunch will be served for $3.

Craig P. Howard, a former copy editor for the Houston Chronicle, in his book, “Hard Rivers,” recounts the harrowing journey of explorer René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle’s Expedition II, a reenactment of the 1681-82 voyage of La Salle from Montreal to the Gulf of Mexico. Howard will open the Town Hall programs on Sept. 28 at 11 a.m.

Kathy Adams Clark, a photographer, naturalist and teacher, will review her book,

Backroads of the Texas Hill Country, in pictures and words Nov. 9. Her work appears in the Houston Chronicle. She will lead you into the soul of the Hill Country, beyond common tourist attractions, touching, for example, on the spectacular Lost Maples.

Other Town Hall programs will include training and care of service dogs, Iceland and the ice melting, and Charlotte Allen, wife of one of Houston’s founders, Augustus Allen.

For information or a brochure, call Ken Euler at 713-664-5740. You may register by mail or at any Thursday meeting. Also, LEOH has a website, leohtexas.org, where you also can register.

A feature called “What’s Up Houston” will continue this year. Speakers give updates on Houston organizations and events at 10 a.m. each Thursday.

There will be four trips in the Houston area. Call Tom Sanders at 713-410-2934 for information.

Classes are offered in beginning Spanish, beginning bridge and crafts. Watercolor painting classes cost $35. Members also play bridge and other games.

Life Enrichment of Houston is a nondenominational, nonprofit, all-volunteer organization.
