The top sports events to watch on TV during the coming week

Texas at Southern Cal

When: 7:30 p.m. Saturday TV: Fox The Trojans have been waiting since the 2005 national championsh­ip game for this rematch, which figures to go in their favor. They are ranked No. 4. The Longhorns, despite a 56-0 victory last Saturday over San Jose State, are unranked.

Rice at Houston

When: 7 p.m. Saturday TV: ESPN3.com The Bayou Bucket series returns with the Cougars, coming off an impressive 19-16 victory over the Pac-12’s Arizona at Tucson, playing at TDECU against the Owls, who rebounded from a 62-7 loss to Stanford with a 31-14 victory at UTEP.

Cowboys at Broncos

When: 3:25 p.m. Sunday TV: Fox The Cowboys, with fewer question marks now that Ezekiel Elliott is with the team, were impressive in Sunday night’s 19-3 victory over the New York Giants. The Broncos are coming off a short week after playing the Chargers on Monday night.

Tale of the Turtles 400

When: 2 p.m. Sunday TV: NBCSN With the preliminar­ies finished, NASCAR’s Monster Energy Cup Series gets serious at the Chicagolan­d Speedway with the first of 10 playoff races.

Golovkin vs. Alvarez

When: 7 p.m. Saturday TV: HBO pay-per-view The Mayweather-McGregor spectacle was more entertaini­ng than expected. But this is the fight true boxing fans have been anticipati­ng, Gennady Golovkin vs. Canelo Alvarez for a unified middleweig­ht title.

Louisiana-Lafayette at Texas A&M

When: 11 a.m. Saturday TV: SEC Network This should give the Aggies in the stands plenty of opportunit­ies to kiss their dates. In two games, the Ragin’ Cajuns have allowed 114 points. They lost 66-42 last weekend to Tulsa. A&M could use a resounding win after squeaking past Nicholls State 24-14 last weekend.

SMU at TCU

When: 2:30 p.m. Saturday TV: ESPNU The Horned Frogs are the only Texas team ranked in the Top 25, voted No. 20 this week after a 28-7 victory over Arkansas. SMU seems to have turned its program around under Chad Morris, starting 2-0.

BMW Championsh­ip

When: Friday-Sunday TV: Golf Channel (Friday), NBC (Saturday-Sunday) This is the third of four tournament­s in the Fed Ex Cup playoffs. Dustin Johnson is defending champion. But the last time the tournament was played on this course in Lake Forest, Ill. in 2015, Jason Day won.

Bluefish at Skeeters

When: 7:05 p.m. Friday TV: None Sugar Land opens its final weekend of the regular season at Constellat­ion Field against Bridgeport. The Skeeters play the Long Island Ducks on Saturday at 6:05 p.m. and Sunday at 2:05 p.m. The Skeeters began the week 2½ games out of ifirst place in their division.
