Cornerback Banks likely to be signed

- Aaron Wilson

The Texans are expected to sign veteran cornerback Johnthan Banks, according to league sources not authorized to speak publicly.

The Texans worked out Banks on Tuesday, along with defensive backs B.W. Webb, Stanley Jean-Baptiste, Corey White and Josh Thornton.

The Texans have a need at cornerback because Kevin Johnson suffered a Grade 2 sprained medial collateral ligament in his knee and is sidelined for four to six weeks.

Banks played parts of four seasons with Tampa Bay and was with Detroit and Chicago last season.

Jaguars claim receiver Strong

Former Texans receiver Jaelen Strong was claimed off waivers by the Jacksonville Jaguars on Tuesday.

Strong was released by the Texans on Monday two games into his third season with the team.

Strong served a onegame suspension to start the season for a violation of the NFL substanceabuse policy and a possession of marijuana arrest.

Strong’s release was purely a football decision, according to sources not authorized to speak publicly. For his career, Strong has caught 28 passes for 292 yards and three scores.

Tight end Baylis cut from roster

The Texans cut rookie tight end Evan Baylis from the active roster.

Baylis had been promoted last week from the practice squad to play against the Bengals because the team’s top three tight ends were out with concussions. Ryan Griffin and Stephen Anderson are expected to return this week, but C.J. Fiedorowicz was placed on injured reserve. Baylis is eligible to be re-signed to the practice squad if he clears waivers.
