LHP Carlos Rodon had arthroscop­ic surgery on his left shoulder and could miss the beginning of next season, general manager Rick Hahn said.

Hahn said Thursday the starter should miss six to eight months after the surgery, which revealed significan­t bursitis that was removed in Wednesday’s surgery.

Rodon, 24, missed nearly the first three months of the season with shoulder and biceps problems.

DETROIT TIGERS

Pedro Martinez Jr., a son of the Hall of Fame pitcher, agreed to an $800,000 signing bonus as part of his minor league contract with the club.

The 17-year-old Martinez is a third baseman who lives in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

MIAMI MARLINS

Derek Jeter has about a 4 percent stake in the group buying the club, and retired NBA great Michael Jordan approximat­ely half of one percent, part of a $1.2 billion purchase from Jeffrey Loria that includes $800 million in cash.

Bruce Sherman, who will become the controllin­g owner, has the highest equity stake in the group, about 46 percent according to details obtained by the Associated Press.

Jeter, the former Yankees captain, will head the team’s baseball and business operations.

TEXAS RANGERS

The club held a groundbrea­king ceremony Thursday for its $1.1 billion retractabl­e-roof stadium that is scheduled to open in time for the 2020 season.

Major League Baseball commission­er Rob Manfred joined Rangers ownership and city officials for the ceremony across the street from the current Globe Life Field, where the team has played since 1994.

WASHINGTON NATIONALS

OF Bryce Harper was out of the team’s starting lineup Thursday night because he felt sore after returning this week from a knee injury that sidelined him for about a quarter of the season.

Manager Dusty Baker expects Harper to play against the Pirates in the final three games of the regular season.
