Texas pride on display
Regarding “Boston sportswriter mistakes Texas flag for Puerto Rico flag” (Chron.com, Friday), that a Boston Herald writer would mistake the Texas flag for the flag of Puerto Rico is funny, but also, on some level, understandable, and it speaks to a state pride that is uniquely Texan.
I’ve lived in several states, including Massachusetts, New York and California and in none of them would a pro team think to display their state flag on the field alongside the American flag. Nor can I imagine Mookie Betts running onto the field at Fenway Park, madly waving the Massachusetts flag the way George Springer did the Texas flag.
As the natives like to say down in these here parts, “It’s a Texas thang ...”
