WHAT TO WEAR

SOMEONE IN HOUSTON SHOULD REALLY DECLARE OCTOBER 2017 AS OSCAR DE LA RENTA MONTH.

- BY AMBER ELLIOTT

If you missed the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston’s fashion show and luncheon showcasing Oscar de la Renta’s resort 2018 collection — or, your Grand Gala Ball invite got lost in the mail — don’t fret. The MFAH’s Mixed Media bash celebrating “The Glamour and Romance of Oscar de le Renta” exhibition Friday night is an accessible way to experience the magic, and play dress up, too. And guests are encouraged to don de le Renta-inspired threads for the occasion. Challenge accepted. Tootsies creative director Fady Armanious suggests a monochromatic look in a bright hue. Or pairing a dramatic asymmetrical blouse with cropped pants.

“That’s the new silhouette, it’s the Monse influence on Oscar de le Renta’s more classic lines,” he says of the brand’s new creative directors, Laura Kim and Fernando Garcia, who co-founded the fashion label Monse. “It’s a fresh and modern take on cocktail. You don’t always have to wear a sparkly little dress.”

Here, Tootsies stylist Adrian Kreps and Farfetch manager Kate Kutchins suit up in de le Renta separates to prove his point. Disco neon and haute high-waters? The better to dance in, my dear.
