Sandra Sue Haynes, known as Sandy to her friends and Mimi to her grandchild­ren, passed away peacefully on September 20, 2017 at the age of 75 in her Cypress, TX home surrounded by family and friends.

Sandy was born on March 20, 1942 in Dallas, TX to her parents Ada Ruth and Johnnie Lee Nicks. She was raised in Bridge City, TX where she graduated from high school. She received a degree in Home Economics Education from Lamar University and a Master’s degree from Texas Southern University.

At Lamar University, Sandy met and fell in love with her future husband, William Paul Haynes. Sandy and Bill were married on July 18, 1964. Sandy and Bill moved to Houston to start their careers. Sandy was a teacher in HISD until the couple moved to England in the mid-1970s. After England the couple moved to the New York City area and then back to Houston in the late 1980s. The couple retired in 2000 to Crossville, TN. Sandy then moved to Cypress, TX in 2016.

Sandy was blessed with two children Edward Paul Haynes and Elizabeth Anne Haynes. Elizabeth married Donald Larry Houghton of Houston, TX and gave Sandy two grandsons Edward Scott Houghton and Zachary Paul Houghton.

Sandy was preceded in death: by her parents her sister Sharon Elizabeth Boudreaux and her husband of 52 years William Paul Haynes. Sandra is survived by: her son, Edward of Vermont, her daughter, Elizabeth and her husband Donald Larry, their two children E. Scott and Zachary of Cypress Texas, her Aunt and dear friend Suzie Smith and her extensive loving family, her nephew Warren Ray Wilson and his family, her niece Deedra Wilson, Bill’s brothers and their families, Donald and Diane Haynes and John and Laurie Haynes, dear friend and cousin Carol Kieschnick, her best friends Dale Jones, Sharon Wagner and Mary Hudson and their families, and her extended family Renay Haynes, Heather Everett and Layla Elrawy.

Sandy will be remembered for her love of life, her humor, her ability to tell a story, her passion for making gifts and decoration­s, and her positive attitude. She was proudest of and would mostly want to be remembered as a loving wife and mother. She will be remembered as half of the loving couple Bill and Sandy, who loved their family, who loved to have parties with their friends, to dance together, and who were there for their friends and family in times of need.

The memorial service for Sandra Sue Haynes will be held Saturday, October 21st at 11:00am at St. John Lutheran Church located at 15235 Spring Cypress Rd, Cypress, TX 77429. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to St. John Lutheran early childhood center to commemorat­e Sandra’s love of education and children.
