SISTER KATHLEEN O’MALLEY, C.V.I.

1931-2017

Sister Kathleen O’Malley, C.V.I., died on November 1, 2017. She was born in Newport, Mayo Ireland, born to John and Catherine O’Malley on November 4, 1931.

Sister was a graduate of Incarnate Word Academy, Houston, and received a B.A. from the University of St. Thomas, Houston, and a Masters in Education from Clarke College, Dubuque, Iowa.

Sister Kathleen entered the Congregation of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament on February 23, 1949 and made first Profession of Vows on December 8, 1955.

In her ministry of teaching, Sister taught at schools in the Beaumont and Austin Dioceses and in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston. She loved to take her 8th grade students on field trips to observe the workings of the City Council and attend mock trials in order for them to learn the workings of City government and the judicial system.

She served as principal at St. James School, Port Arthur, and St. Theresa and Holy Name Schools, Houston. She loved working at Incarnate Word Academy as a Library Assistant. In her retirement from school, Sister did volunteer work in the office for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Houston, for several years. In her later years, she devoted her life to prayer.

In her retirement from school, Sister did volunteer work in the office for the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Houston, for several years. She had a real compassion for the less fortunate. In her later years, she devoted her life to serving others through a ministry of prayer.

Sister Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by three sisters, Sister Carmel O’Malley, Angela Cox and Margaret Squires and three brothers, Walter (Anna Marie) O’Malley, Austin ( Sara) O’Malley, John O’Malley and Noel (Bridie). She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and friends.

Visitation will be on Thursday, November 2, from 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. followed by the Wake Service at Incarnate Word Convent 3400 Bradford Street, Houston, TX. The Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday, November 3, at 10:00 a.m. in the convent chapel. Rite of Committal will be at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Incarnate Word Academy, 609 Crawford Street, Houston, Texas 77002.
