Kansas St. at Texas Tech When/where: 11 a.m.; Jones AT&T Stadium, Lubbock. TV/radio: FS1; 1230 AM. Records: Kansas State 4-4, 2-3 Big 12; Texas Tech 4-4, 1-4. Kansas State update: QB Alex Delton may start his fourth consecutiv­e game, but either Jesse Ertz or strong-armed Skylar Thompson could get the starting nod. Thompson closed out last week against Kansas after Delton took a hit to the helmet. Ertz has missed the past three games with a knee injury. … D.J. Reed’s 189 return yards against Kansas is the most in the Big 12 this season. Texas Tech update: Like Kansas State, a win would go a long way for Texas Tech becoming bowl eligible. … Losers of three straight and four of its last five games, Texas Tech’s only win in that stretch was against one-win Kansas (65-19). … The Red Raiders are seventh in the Big 12 in rushing defense, allowing 184 yards per game. The Wildcats average 181 yards rushing per game.

Baylor update: Baylor is the only team in FBS without a win, and both Baylor and Kansas are trying to stay out of the Big 12 cellar. It’s the first time in 48 years the Bears have lost their first eight games. … The Bears have been competitiv­e but are coming off a 38-7 loss to Texas. … Freshman QB Charlie Brewer will start. Zach Smith has a sprained shoulder. Smith and Preston Heard are both available at the position. … The Bears have 15 40-plus yard passing plays, four from Denzel Mims. Kansas update: The Jayhawks’ only win was the season opener, 38-16 over Southeast Missouri State. … Kansas, coming off a 30-20 loss to Kansas State, has been outscored by 33.2 points per game in Big 12 play. … Opponents have scored on return TDs in three straight games. … Carter Stanley threw for 418 yards last week, the most by a Kansas QB since Todd Reesing in 2009.

Incarnate Word update: After playing fifth-ranked Sam Houston, the Cardinals will host No. 4 Central Arkansas next week, a stretch of playing four straight ranked opponents. … Incarnate Word’s only win is 33-24 over Lamar. … Desmond Hite is the SLC special teams player of the week. The Cypress Falls product tied the conference record of three kick-return TDs in a season with his 100-yard return against Nicholls. Sam Houston State update: Davion Davis is the fourth player in program history to have a receiving, rushing and return TD in the same season. … With 78½ tackles for loss, P.J. Hall needs 1½ more to equal the SLC career mark of 80 by Southern Utah’s James Cowser (2012-15). … The Bearkats’ 16-game home win streak is the longest current streak in FCS. … In last week’s 33-23 victory at Southeaste­rn Louisiana, the Kats held the Lions to 202 rushing yards, 121 below their average.

Mississipp­i Valley State update: In last week’s 24-5 loss to previously winless Jackson State, the Delta Devils managed only 105 yards of offense. … LB Patrick Harbin leads the SWAC in tackles (67) and tackles per game (8.4) to go with 3½ sacks.

Houston Baptist at Nicholls St. When/where: 3:30 p.m.; Guidry Stadium, Thibodaux, La. Records: Houston Baptist 1-7, 0-6 Southland; Nicholls State 6-2, 5-1. Houston Baptist update: Despite a losing record, HBU has outscored its opponents in the first quarter, 43-27, and has led or been tied after the opening quarter in five of its seven games. … CB Raphael Lewis has two intercepti­ons, and his nine broken-up passes ties the Huskies’ single-season record. … Freshman WR Dennis Houston has set a school single-season record with 33 receptions (362 yards). Central Arkansas update: The first-place Bears are poised to run the table in the Southland following last week’s 47-14 thumping of No. 19 McNeese State. … Of the Bears’ six conference wins, all but one is by more than 10 points. Central Arkansas has scored 92 points over its last two games. … Central Arkansas’ only loss was in its opener at Kansas State, 55-19. Lamar update: Lamar is in the midst of a six-game losing streak following its 34-7 loss to Stephen F. Austin. The defense forced five Stephen F. turnovers, but offensivel­y, Isaiah Howard was the only Cardinals receiver to catch a pass of more than 10 yards. … The Cardinals are 0-6 in the series. … Lamar and HBU are the only winless teams in the Southland.
