-

The Houston area will be sending some notable basketball talent elsewhere following a few notable signings Wednesday.

Longtime TCU commitment and Sam Houston point guard Kendrick Davis signed with the Horned Frogs. He has spent the last four years proving size doesn’t matter as a 5-11 electric floor general and scorer.

Tompkins shooting guard Jamal Bieniemy signed with Oklahoma while Tompkins forward Kristian Sjolund signed with Georgia Tech.

Just as notable is who didn’t sign — College Park’s Quentin Grimes. The No. 3-ranked combo guard in the country, according to 247Sports, will choose between Kansas, Kentucky, Marquette and Texas among other bluechip programs.

On the girls’ side, Barbers Hill forward Charli Collier made it official with Texas, and the Longhorns got another local star in Cypress Falls point guard Joanne AllenTaylor.

15 softball players from 2 teams sign

In 2016, Kingwood Park advanced to the regional quarterfinals for the first time in school history. In 2017, it reached the regional semifinals.

“This core group of girls have been playing softball for years and really put Kingwood Park softball on the map when they arrived on campus,” Kingwood Park coach Sara Koym said.

Kingwood Park wasn’t the only softball program with a ton of signings.

Pearland had eight: Kaylee Buck (Texas Tech), Adrianna Chavarria (Louisiana-Monroe), Taylor Gonzalez (Northeast Texas CC), Ryleigh Love (TexasArlington), Casey Martin (Texas Lutheran), Ashlin Moreno (Texas Southern), Lauren Ochoa (Alvin CC) and Natalie Trujillo (Weatherford College).

Magnolia pals bound for Big 12

Adam Kloffenstein and Jordan Groshans have been good friends since meeting in sixth grade. Years later, after forging a tight bond on and off the baseball diamond, the two ballplayers took a big step in their lives on Wednesday morning.

With teammates, coaches, family members and classmates looking on, Magnolia baseball’s dynamic duo signed with Big 12 schools: Kloffenstein with TCU and Groshans with Kansas.

“I met him in sixth grade, and we’ve been buddies ever since,” Groshans said. “That’s always been one of our biggest dreams, is to play Division I baseball, and now we get to do it in the same conference. So it’s a pretty special day.”
