LILLIE FARB

1927-2017

-

Lillie Markewich Farb, age 90, passed away on Sunday, November 12, 2017. She was born on August 31, 1927 in Beaumont, Texas to Joseph and Gitel Markewich. After her parents died, she moved to Bay City, Texas to live with her sister and brother-in-law, Jennie and Isaac Neuman. After graduating from Bay City High School, she moved to Houston and on a blind date in August 1949, she met Haskell Farb. They were married on October 23, 1949. She became a Galvestonian where she worked in the family business and raised her family. They were married for almost 60 years when Haskell passed away in 2008.

The most important thing in her life was her family. She was proud to be Jewish and she was a true Jewish mama – absolutely the best – and she was the ultimate Bubbie. She loved cooking for everyone and was always ready with everyone’s favorite dish. She made all the Jewish holidays special – Rosh Hashanah dinners, latkes at Chanukah, seders with homemade gefilte fish and matzo ball soup. All the holidays were celebrated with good food and love.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings Dr. Jake Markewich, Jennie Neuman, Annie Weintraub and Louis Markewich. She is survived by her son Joel Farb, her daughter and son-in-law Gerilyn and John Gordon, all of Houston, her grandchildren Jeffrey Gordon, Ph.D. and his wife Doni Pleason of Atlanta, and Jay Gordon, Ph.D. and his wife Dr. Ilyse Kornblau of Galveston. She is also survived by her niece Helene Lubel and her family of Houston and her nephew Dr. Joseph Weintraub and his family of Santa Cruz, California.

Her presence will be forever missed but we honor her by continuing with all the things she taught us. May her memory be a blessing.

Graveside service to be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 14,2017 at Beth Jacob Cemetery in Galveston.
