Gurriel fourth in rookie voting
Astros first baseman Yuli Gurriel tied for fourth place in the voting for American League Rookie of the Year, won unanimously Monday by New York Yankees star Aaron Judge.
The 33-year-old Gurriel, who defected from Cuba and debuted in the majors in 2016, finished behind Andrew Benintendi of the Boston Red Sox and Trey Mancini of the Baltimore Orioles and tied with Matt Olson of the Oakland Athletics. Gurriel received only five thirdplace votes from the 30 members of the Baseball Writers’ Association of America who voted.
Results of the American League Manager of the Year Award voting, for which Astros manager A.J. Hinch is a finalist, will be revealed Tuesday at 5 p.m. CT on the MLB Network.
