Robert Michael Hanley, age 52, of Houston, TX, passed away suddenly on Saturday, the 11th of November 2017, at his home.

Mike grew up in Houston, TX and graduated from Strake Jesuit College Preparator­y in 1983. He graduated from The University of Texas in Austin with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineerin­g in 1987. Upon graduation, Mike went to work for Garrett, Inc in Phoenix, AZ for 5 years as a project engineer working on auxiliary power engines for jet airliners. He was a long time member and Stephen Minister of the First Presbyteri­an Church in Houston, TX. Mike returned to Houston in 1992 when he was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. He was a 25 year cancer survivor under the care of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Mike was a multiple year participan­t and highly successful fund raiser in the annual “Run for the Rose”, honoring Dr. Marnie Rose.

Mike is survived by his parents, Bob and Peggy Hanley, his brother Bill Hanley, sister in law Kim Hanley, his niece Kaitlyn Hanley and nephew Cameron Hanley.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o’clock in the afternoon until seven o’clock in the evening on Friday, the 17th of November, in the library and grand foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.

A memorial service is to be conducted at one o’clock in the afternoon on Saturday, the 18th of November, in the Jasek Chapel of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons. Immediatel­y following, all are invited to greet the family during a reception to be held in the adjacent grand foyer.

In lieu of customary remembranc­es, memorial contributi­ons, in honor of Robert Michael Hanley, may be directed toward MD Anderson Cancer Center, Brain Tumor Research, P.O. 4486, Houston, TX 772104486 (www.mdanderson.org/gifts); or to the charity of one’s choice.
