Houston-area walking tours heat up as temps fall

- By Emilia Benton SENIOR LIVING CORRESPONDENT

When the weather cools down in Houston, it’s not a cause for alarm or even a call to bring the heavy jackets out. In fact, it’s a prime opportunity to get outside more and enjoy the breeze and fresh air.

For the most part, Houston unfortunately isn’t a very walkable city as far as running errands and attending events are concerned.

However, the Architecture Center of Houston, in conjunction with the American Institute of Architects, offers various opportunities to explore the city of Houston on foot while experiencing and being entertained by the city in a new way.

These tours explore the architecture, history and design of Houston’s landscape and are each led by an ArCHtrained docent.

All tours take place Saturday mornings at 10 a.m. and select Thursday evenings at 6 p.m., September through May. General admission tickets are $10; tickets for AIA members are $5.

AIA Houston is offering the following tours before the year ends: Museum District Walking Tour, Saturday, Dec. 2

This two-hour walking tour allows visitors to experience the public art, contemporary architecture and impressive landscape design surrounding the area’s 19 museums.

ArCH tour guides will guide visitors while viewing works of art from the early 20th century through today.

This tour meets at the at the Bissonnet Street entrance to the MFAH Sculpture Garden at 5101 Montrose Blvd. Towers and Trees Downtown Walking Tour, Saturday, Dec. 9
