Ohio St. beats TSU; A&M women lose

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Keita Bates-Diop, Jae’Sean Tate and Micah Potter each scored 17 points to help Ohio State hold off Texas Southern 82-64 on Thursday night.

Bates-Diop added 12 rebounds. Musa Jallow had 13 points and four steals in his first career start, and C.J. Jackson scored eight with nine assists for Ohio State (3-0). The Buckeyes held a 39-30 rebounding edge.

Jallow punctuated a 16-2 run with his third 3-pointer to give the Buckeyes a 75-59 lead with 3:55 remaining in the game. Ohio State led by 18 points with 17:12 to go, but TSU (0-3) used a 24-8 run to pull within four points with 6:58 left. Donte Clark scored eight points during the stretch. He finished with 17 points, hitting eight of nine free throws.

Sophomore guard Demontrae Jefferson, who scored at least 20 points in each of TSU’s first two games, did not play.

Women OREGON 83, TEXAS A&M 68

Ruthy Hebard scored a season-high 24 points on 10-for-10 shooting, and the No. 10 Ducks beat the 19th-ranked Aggies in College Station.

Down six at the half, Oregon (3-0) scored the first seven points of the third quarter to grab a 35-34 lead. After A&M (2-1) briefly led once more, Oregon began running away late in the period.

Freshman Chennedy Carter led the Aggies with a career-high 23 points.
