Gray scores 37, but UH falls against Drexel

LYNCHBURG, Va. — Tramaine Isabell scored 21 points and grabbed 16 rebounds, and Sammy Mojica hit the go-ahead 3-pointer with 28 seconds to go as Drexel edged Houston 84-80 on Friday in the relocated Paradise Jam.

It was moved from St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands to the Vines Center in Lynchburg because of damage from Hurricanes Irma and Maria.

The Cougars missed a 3-pointer, and Troy Harper made two free throws with seven seconds left to secure the win for the Dragons (2-1).

Rob Gray poured in a career-high 37 points for the Cougars (1-1), including a pair of baskets in the final two minutes that gave Houston the lead.

Connor Cashaw scored a career-high 27 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead the Owls and new coach Scott Pera over the Demons in Natchitoch­es, La., for their first victory this season.

Cashaw, a junior, was 9-of-16 from the floor, including 4-of-8 on 3-pointers, while grabbing nine rebounds. Sophomore Ako Adams added career highs of 16 points and nine assists and A.J. Lapray, a graduate transfer from Pepperdine, scored a career-high 18 points off the bench for Rice (1-2).

TEXAS A&M 84 UC SANTA BARBARA 65

DJ Hogg scored 19 of his 24 points in the first 10 minutes of the second half, and the No. 16 Aggies won their home opener over the Gauchos.

Max Heidigger scored 24 points as UC Santa Barbara stuck around after Texas A&M (2-0) built an early 16-point lead. But Hogg’s strong second-half kept UCSB from mounting a challenge.

BAYLOR 78, ALCORN ST. 61

Manu Lecomte scored 17 points, Jo Lual-Acuil Jr. added 16 points and 12 rebounds, and the 25thranked Bears beat the Braves in Waco.

King McClure scored 13 points, and Tristan Clark had 12 points and nine rebounds for Baylor (3-0).

DUKE 78, SOUTHERN 61

Wendell Carter Jr. had 20 points and 11 rebounds, and the No. 1 Blue Devils defeated the Jaguars in Durham, N.C.

Marvin Bagley III added 19 points and 11 rebounds for Duke, which was coming off a victory over No. 2 Michigan State three nights earlier.

Svi Mykhailiuk scored a career-high 27 points, and the fourth-ranked Jayhawks routed the Jackrabbit­s in Lawrence, Kan.

Mikal Bridges set a school record by hitting all six of his 3-point shots and scored a career-high 24 points in the fifthranke­d Wildcats’ rout of the Leopards in Allentown, Pa.
