McCoy done as Broncos’ OC

-

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. — The Denver Broncos fired offensive coordinator Mike McCoy on Monday and replaced him with quarterbacks coach Bill Musgrave.

Klint Kubiak, son of former Denver coach Gary Kubiak, will take over as quarterbacks coach while Musgrave calls plays for the final six weeks of a soured season that began with promise. The Broncos (3-7) are mired in six-game losing steak, their longest skid in a single season since 1990.

The changes could be a precursor to giving former first-round draft pick Paxton Lynch an audition at quarterback. Trevor Siemian began the season as the starter but was benched three weeks ago in favor of Brock Osweiler.

Bills evaluating options at QB

Bills coach Sean McDermott isn’t going to be rushed into choosing a starting quarterback a day after his decision to go with rookie Nathan Peterman backfired.

McDermott said he’s still evaluating whether to give Peterman another start or return to Tyrod Taylor for Buffalo’s game at Kansas City on Sunday.

Peterman unraveled in a 54-24 loss at the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday by throwing five interceptions in the first half before being replaced by Taylor with the Bills down 40-7. Buffalo (5-5) has lost three straight.

Odds and ends

Washington receiver Terrelle Pryor is heading to injured reserve after having ankle surgery. Running back Chris Thompson will have surgery on his broken leg, as expected. … The Bears cut kicker Connor Barth and signed former Chiefs kicker Cairo Santos after Barth missed a tying 46yard field goal wide right on Chicago’s final drive in Sunday’s loss to Detroit. … Rams receiver Robert Woods will likely miss a couple of weeks with a shoulder injury. … Blaine Gabbert will get a second week as the starting quarterback for the Cardinals, coach Bruce Arians said.
