Joseph Thomas Marziotti, Jr.

Passed away November 24, 2017 in Sugar Land, Texas. Survived by wife Elsie (née Parkes), daughter Claire, son John, grandson Sam, son-in-law Kerry Regan, daughter-in-law Christine, and step-grandsons Jackson and Tyler Carbo. Predecease­d in 1985 by son Christophe­r.

Joe was born November 14, 1931 in New York City to Rose (née Sforza) and Joseph T. Marziotti, Sr. He graduated from St. John’s University in Queens, with a B.A. in 1953, and an LLD in 1956. Joe had a long career in real estate law, working first for F.W. Woolworth, then Edison Brothers. He and his family moved from New York City to St. Louis in 1966. Joe served as the official statistici­an for the St. Louis Cardinals football team for many years.

In 1994, after retirement, Joe and Elsie moved to Sugar Land. They were members of St. Laurence Church. Joe enjoyed golf, watching sports, and reading, and he volunteere­d as a tutor of English for recent immigrants. He loved the St. Louis Cardinals baseball team and rarely missed a game. Later in life, Joe took up writing non-fiction and was a skilled wordsmith.

A funeral mass will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, 6800 Buffalo Speedway, Houston, TX 77025 on December 1 at 2 p.m. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to may donate to The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer, P.O. Box 4486, Houston TX 77210-4486.
