Injuries taking their toll
NASVHILLE, Tenn. — Enduring another painful Sunday during a season filled with them, the Texans dealt with another rash of injuries.
Four players left Sunday’s 24-13 loss to the Titans with concussions, including tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz, who suffered his third concussion of the year. Wide receiver Braxton Miller, running back Alfred Blue and linebacker Jelani Jenkins also sustained concussions.
“It’s very tough,” Jadeveon Clowney said. “We depend on a lot of big-name guys. It’s rough, but it’s always next man up. The guys who are stepping in are doing the best they can do. They’re making plays, but you want your horses out there.”
This concussion wasn’t considered as severe for Fiedorowicz as previous ones he’s experienced, according to a league source not authorized to speak publicly. However, the team is being understandably cautious with him because of his history of head injuries. The team will probably have to consider whether to shut Fiedorowicz down for the remainder of the season after he was previously activated from injured reserve-designated to return following a pair of concussions.
“I really shouldn’t comment on that,” Texans coach Bill O’Brien said. “I’m sure you can come to your own conclusions on that.”
The Texans have already lost Deshaun Watson, J.J. Watt and Whitney Mercilus to season-ending injuries. Now, they’re even more banged-up.
“That’s no excuse,” O’Brien said. “We’ve got to find a way to win, but it was definitely one of the tougher days personally that I’ve ever had trying to piece it all together.”
When Fiedorowicz got hurt, the Texans were down to one healthy tight end as Stephen Anderson caught five passes for 79 yards.
“It’s really unfortunate C.J. got hurt,” Anderson said. “That’s how it’s been all season.”
Additionally, wide receiver Bruce Ellington left the game with a hamstring injury, and cornerback Johnathan Joseph hurt his shoulder.
Joseph downplayed the severity of his injury.
“It’s a little sore, but I think I’ll be all right,” Joseph said.
