HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Boys
Joshua Holl, Cypress Christian
Notable: The 6-2 senior quarterback shook off a rough first half to throw for 194 yards and five touchdowns in a 49-43 victory over Boerne Geneva in the TAPPS Division III semifinals, sending the Warriors to the state finals for the first time. It was Holl’s fourth game with at least five scoring passes in his last five outings, giving him 45 TDs on 165-of-306 passing with 2,754 yards and nine interceptions.
What coach Jacob Spenn said: “The greatest thing we saw was his resilience. He kept coming back and making throws. Our best receiver didn’t get as many reps during the week, so we missed a couple early that we normally hit, and the timing was a little off … (but) he kept playing and came up with some huge throws.”
