A+ HOLIDAY STYLE
There’s a new hot spot on Washington. It’s called The Study.
And though dozens of hardcover books fill the industrial-chic warehouse, most titles are of the coffee-table variety. Graphic-print backpacks and book bags dot the loftlike space as well, but they’re more of a streetstyle accessory than classroom necessity.
Name aside, very little learning actually goes down in the Jawda + Jawda-designed holiday pop-up shop. The sisters, Sarah and Saba Jawda, who often coordinate in matching black-on-white attire, are instead making a case for thoughtful gift-giving, with a millennial slant.
They collaborated with several H-town creatives to produce unique presents befitting trendy young things. You know, the type who wouldn’t be caught dead wearing a retailchain hoodie or exchanging bargain-bin candles — talk about basic.
So the Jawdas tapped artist Jacqueline Levine (aka JALE) to create grafitti-esque wearables and Manready Mercantile’s head honcho Travis Weaver to hipster-fy some admittedly first-rate wax. The latter boasts meme-friendly labels like “Let’s get lit” and “Netflix + chill.” Stocking stuffers, anyone?
Practically everything in The Study is for sale, from bags of Sugarpova candy (which benefits tennis champ Maria Sharapova’s eponymous foundation because #obviously) to Sarah’s seasonal greeting cards that boast tongue-in-cheek sayings like “Happy Whatever” and “Merry Drinkmas.”
Take the polished siblings’ lead and slip into something trendy from Baanou, their favorite store. It’s the perfect place to snag a new profile pic; the canvas art makes an excellent backdrop and is — you guessed it! — available for purchase, too.
These aren’t your aunt Gertrude’s white elephant party selects, though at a hip-hop blasting emporium on Washington, did you expect to see her anyway?
