How to find the culprit causing a printing problem in Chrome

Q: Is there something I need to install or change in order to enable printing to my wireless printer from Chrome? I can’t print successfully from all of my other applications.

A: By default, printing from Chrome should be no different than printing from any other application. Open Chrome, go to the page you want to print, and click on File and then Print to bring up the printer dialogue box.

It’s possible you have Chrome configured to print to something other than your printer. Chrome can be configured to print to a PDF file or print to a file on your Google Drive.

When looking at the printer dialogue box, check to see if your printer is selected. If not, click on the Change button and select it.

If all of your settings are correct and you are still unable to print from Chrome, the problem could be a plug-in or extension. Start Chrome using Incognito Mode, which will load a new browser Window without extensions or plug-ins. You can launch an Incognito session by clicking the File menu and selecting New Incognito Window.

Then try to print something. If it works, then we know there is something interfering with the print process. Then look at your installed plug-ins and selectively disable them to determine the culprit.

To access your installed extensions, click on the three bars in the upper right corner of Chrome and select More Tools and then Extensions. You will see a list of what’s installed. Once you determine which one is causing the problem, you can remove it or check to see if there is an updated version that solves the problem.

Q: My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Amp Prime, running Android 6.0.1. This morning I got a notification on my phone that a software update is available, but it said I don’t have enough space to install it. After doing some research, I discovered it wants to upgrade my OS to Android 7.1.1 (Nougat). I have already moved my pictures and documents to my cloud storage. I have almost no uninstallable apps that I don’t use regularly, at least not enough to make a significant difference. Is there anything I can do?

A: Many Android devices give you the ability to install an SD card for extra storage, and if it is not locked down by the carrier, also the option to install applications on the SD card rather than the main drive of the phone. You would need to consult your documentation for instructions on this. Many of the less expensive Android devices simply don’t have this capability.

Another option for you might be to empty the cache partition. The cache partition stores temporary system data, which allows the device to access apps more quickly and efficiently. There should be an option to delete this in the settings menu. If you do this,it might free up enough space to install the update.
