Cruz was born in Harlingen, TX on August, 20, 1945. He married his childhood sweetheart, Rosa, in 1968. They met while picking cotton in the Valley and were married for 36 years. Cruz and Rosa enjoyed spending time with family and traveling to casinos.

Cruz served in the United States Air Force in Vietnam as a Sergeant in the Military Police. He was honorably discharged in 1970. Shortly thereafter, he began his 30year career with the United States Postal Service as a mail carrier. Throughout his career and afterwards, he always found ways to help his customers, neighbors and others that he encountered.

Cruz was an avid sports fan - he loved all of the Houston sports teams – although his favorite was probably the Texans. He attended many of the home games, and cheered his teams on from home when he wasn’t there in person. He also liked going to listen to music at the League City Village Fair and other local concerts. First and foremost, however, he was a committed parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church. He rarely missed mass and was steadfast in his Catholic faith.

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 13, 2017 from 5:00-7:00pm at St. Mary Catholic Church in League City, TX 77573. A rosary will follow from 7:00-8:00pm. Funeral services (Mass of Resurrection) will be held on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at 10:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery.
