Boys

Trenton Kennedy, Cy-Fair

Notable: The senior running back carried 32 times for 182 yards and four touchdowns, including two scores in the final 2:46, in a 31-14 win over district rival Langham Creek in the Class 6A Division II Region III championsh­ip game at Cy-Fair FCU Stadium, sending the Bobcats to the state semifinals for the first time since 1985.

What coach Ed Pustejovsk­y said: “He’s done a great job for us. He’s carried the load, he’s done everything we’ve asked him to do, and he gets some tough yards. It wasn’t easy the other day, but he makes those tough yards, and then he’ll break one every now and then. He’s just been real consistent for us.”

Other nominees

Bryson Etienne, Bush: The 6-2 senior guard was named tournament MVP after supplying 18 points in a 59-46 victory against Elkins in the Fort Bend Invitation­al championsh­ip game.

B.J. Foster, Angleton: The senior running back/ defensive back rushed for 126 yards and three touchdowns and was the only Wildcats player with a reception, supplying six for 89 yards, in a 41-10 win over Foster that clinched Angleton’s first state semifinal since 1973.

Joshua Holl, Cypress Christian: The 6-2 senior completed 15 of 25 passes for 394 yards and six touchdowns in a 68-34 win over McKinney Christian in the TAPPS Division III state championsh­ip game. Jason McDaniel

Girls

Jasmine Smith, Kinkaid

Notable: The Rice commitment had 26 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and four steals against A&M Consolidat­ed, and 17 points, 10 assists, nine rebounds and seven steals against Duchesne Academy.

What coach Stacey Marshall said: “I would definitely say Jasmine is an impact player just by what she does not only in her skills but just by how she leads the team both on and off the floor.” Other nominees Tatyana Hill, Dekaney: She had 24 points and 19 rebounds in a win over Cypress Woods, and 13 points, 18 rebounds and six assists in a win over Nimitz.

Jalynn Johnson, Fort Bend Austin : She had 15 points and 10 rebounds and 11 points and 10 rebounds against Cinco Ranch and Montgomery, respective­ly.

Jessica Soders, Westside: She had 21 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and six steals against Westbury.
