WHAT TO WEAR

RAIDING BUFFALO EXCHANGE FOR FESTIVAL-WORTHY FASHION

- BY AMBER ELLIOTT amber.elliott@chron.com

You don’t want to walk into Day for Night looking like last year. Heed these fashion tips.

The name says it all. Day for Night is a 24/7 party, people.

This weekend, the much-discussed music/art festival returns to the historic Barbara Jordan Post Office downtown for the second time. There, an eclectic and electric mash-up of performers — Nine Inch Nails, Thom Yorke, Solange, Justice, St. Vincent, Pretty Lights and Phantogram, to namedrop a few — will share 1.5 million square feet of indoor/outdoor space with visual artists that you’ve probably never heard of, but will help you score dozens of Instagram likes from cool art kids around the globe. Take that, Art Basel. Getting back to social media, dressing the part is an important, oft-overlooked component of festival prep. Whether the end-goal is to be a blogger and street-style photographer magnet, or just to look like you belong backstage (note: this is my best hack for bypassing the $750 VIP badge, #tbh), aesthetic is essential.

Thankfully, Buffalo Exchange has got it covered. Most of the employees have been planning their own Day for Night ensembles for weeks and can recommend the perfect sunglasses (classic Ray-Ban Wayfarers), jeans (black skinnies with a white-painted skeleton) and accessories (embellished everything) on command.

Because the wrong shoe, backpack or statement tee can ruin an entire outfit. And is there anything more mortifying than being asked, “Is this your first time?”
