David was born on January 16, 1956 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Lawrence B. James and Frances V. James. He attended St. Thomas High School in Houston and graduated in 1974. He earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos, Texas.

In his spare time, David’s hobbies sustained him. From the time he was a teenager he loved cars and enjoyed working on them. He was a film buff and, as with his records, collected rare and hard-to-find titles.

David was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his brother, Stephen James of Houston, and an extended family of aunts and cousins, all of whom will miss him very much.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, December 29, 2017 in the Chapel of Angels, Forest Park Lawndale, 6900 Lawndale Avenue, in Houston. There will be a period for visitation prior to the services and interment will follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his name to St. Thomas High School, 4500 Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77007.
