Dale Kenny Gentry Miller Schlatter died on December 23, 2017, shortly after she was diagnosed with cancer. Dale was born on February 9, 1942 in Corpus Christi, Texas to John George Gentry and Nancy Kenny Gentry and, in 1948, she moved with her family to Houston. In 1960, she graduated cum laude from The Kinkaid School and in 1964 she graduated from Rice University with a degree in English. She was married in 1966 to Charles (Charlie) Schreiner Miller until his death in 1988. From 1966 to 1969, she and Charlie, a West Point graduate, were stationed in Okinawa where he was a Captain in the Finance Corps. In 1996, she married a fellow Rice graduate, Earl Douglas (Doug) Schlatter. She was a dedicated homemaker, wife and mother. She enjoyed music, literature, travelling and had an insatiable thirst for learning. She is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Doug; her children (and spouses) Amanda Kenny Miller, Alexander Frost Miller and Andrew George (Debbie) Miller, Elizabeth Schlatter (Anthony Yañez), Mark (Lynn) Schlatter; and her three beloved grandchild­ren, Miranda Yañez, Charles James Miller and Grace Elizabeth Miller. Honorary pallbearer­s are Harvey Seigle, Bruce Sokol, Gerald Schlatter and Kenny Whitley.

There will be a private graveside service for family at Memorial Oaks Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent in her name to The Women’s Institute of Houston or The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
