NEW YEAR’S EVE MUSIC
Nightclubs typically do bigger business than music venues on New Year’s Eve. But that doesn’t mean live music will be quiet as 2017 mercifully slouches into 2018. Here’s a short roundup of some of the venues open for business, and some of the great local and regional acts who will be performing before and after midnight.
Anderson Fair: A crossgenerational Texas singersongwriter gathering featuring Shake Russell, Matt Harlan, Ken Gaines and Wayne Wilkerson. 9 p.m., 2007 Grant; $50-$60; 832-767-2785, andersonfair. com.

House of Blues: A Very Metal New Year’s Eve includes cover bands that are mostly selfexplanatory: Kiss Alike, Judas X, No Remorse and Ozz. 8 p.m., 1204 Caroline; $15-$18; hob. com. McGonigel’s Mucky Duck: The South Austin Moonlighters play a festive and deepgrooved sort of Southern rock that reminds of Little Feat. 7 p.m., 2425 Norfolk; $95-$100; 713-528-5999, mcgonigels. com. Redneck Country Club: Houston legend Grady Gaines played sax with Little Richard. He’ll serve up spirited blues and R&B. 9 p.m., 11110 W.
