Underwood reveals fall left her face ‘not quite looking the same’

-

The accident that left Carrie Underwood with a broken wrist was worse than the singer originally let on.

The country star, 34, also suffered a facial injury that required her to get at least 40 stitches when she fell on a set of steps at her Nashville, Tenn., home in November, Underwood revealed in a new blog post.

“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” Underwood explained in the post published Sunday, according to Entertainment Tonight. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”

A rep for Underwood revealed two months ago that the singer was hospitalized with a broken wrist and several cuts and bruises after taking a “hard fall on some steps,” but the facial injury was not addressed publicly until the blog post.

“I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told (her husband Mike Fisher) that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in,” Underwood wrote.

The “Before He Cheats” singer wrote she’s healing but is “not quite looking the same” as she did before the injury.

She went on to say she’s grateful for those who have stood by her during her recovery.

“I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way,” Underwood wrote in the blog. “And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.”

Underwood was forced to cancel a scheduled performance at a benefit concert in Nashville following the accident. She posted a selfie to Instagram last week in which much of her face is covered by a scarf, but has largely refrained from sharing new photos over the past two months.

The singer and Fisher, who retired from the NHL last year after 17 seasons, have been married since 2010.
