Velma Louise Bonura went peacefully to be with her Lord and joined her loving husband in paradise on December 31, 2017. Velma was preceeded in death by her husband of 63 years, James L. Bonura (Deacon Jim), her parents, Vivian and Joseph Schiller, her brothers and sisters, her infant son, Joseph, her daughter, Marie McBride and her great grandson, Elijah James Bonura. Velma is survived by her 12 children Celeste Bryant and husband Russell, Dorothy Everett and husband John, James Bonura and wife Anne, Vivian Feland and husband Mike, Thomas Bonura, Sr. and wife Jennifer, Vincent Bonura, Sr. and wife Patricia, Dolores Koenig and husband Bruce, Robert Bonura, Sr. and wife Victoria, John Bonura, Sr. and wife Martha, Velma Smith, Yvonne Bell and husband Bill, Paule Anne Lewis and husband Richard, 28 grandchild­ren, 60 great grandchild­ren and 6 great great grandchild­ren. Velma spent her life in service to her God, Church and family. She was a wonderful woman who inspired so many to grow closer to Christ. She left an amazing legacy of faith, family, tradition and more. Velma’s children would like to thank the staff of St. Dominic Villiage and Houston Hospice for caring for their mother with the compassion of Christ. Per the family’s request, please make any donations in her memory to St. Dominic Villiage or San Jose Clinic.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 5:00 to 6:30 pm with a vigil service and recitation of the Rosary to begin at 6:30 pm at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 11:00 am at St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church, 3600 Brinkman St. Houston, Texas 77018. Interment will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery 6900 Lawndale St, Houston, Texas 77023.
