J.E. “BUGGS” THREADGILL

1933-2018

J.E. “Buggs” Threadgill, 84, passed away on Wednesday, January 4, 2018 at his home in Cypress, Texas. He was born in Houston, Texas on December 16, 1933 to Herman E. Threadgill and Delia Mae Rawls. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Wanda Threadgill; son, James Wayne Threadgill (Karen); daughters, Sandra Darlene Guasco (Alex) and Carol Threadgill; grandson, Jacob Sanders Guasco; sister, Marilyn Threadgill Schube; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Buggs loved racing, he built his first drag racing car in 1954. It appeared in June ’58 Hot Rod Magazine, Best First Dragster. He built his first top fuel dragster and raced it in the winter of ’57 and all of ’58. In 1958, his dragster turned a 9.09 and then a 8.97 and was the first to break the 8 second bracket on the quarter mile.

He married his wife, Wanda, on January 9, 1959. He started his own business in 1964, Threadgill Sheet Metal Works. He worked on numerous luxury homes in River Oaks and the Memorial area. His copper work was truly artistic and contributed to the beauty of Houston homes today.

He served in the Spring Branch Lion’s Club for many years, contributing to his favorite charity, The Lion’s Club Camp. He was a founding member of the Texas Gulf Coast Oldsmobile Club, established in 1991. He dedicated his time and many talents to their annual car show, with proceeds going toward The Heart Association, The 100 Club and Texas Children’s Hospital. Each Christmas, he led a drive for toys to donate to his favorite local charity, Cypress Assistance Ministries.

Services will be held at Memorial Oaks Cemetery, 13001 Katy Fwy. , Houston, Texas 77079. Viewing will be Tuesday, January 9th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. and the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 10th at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Texas Lion’s Camp or Texas Children’s Hospital, in memory of J.E. “Buggs” Threadgill.

Buggs was well known for his ’70 Oldsmobile Cutlass 442 Convertible which he lovingly restored from the ground up and his famous bar-b-q brisket.
