MARIA LUISA TREVIÑO

1922-2018

Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother, Maria Luisa Treviño, 95, went peacefully to be with our Lord and Savior on January 5, 2018. She was born on July 20, 1922 in Pesqueria, Nuevo Leon, Mexico and immigrated to the United States in 1958 with her husband and six children. After establishing roots in Houston’s Second Ward, Luisa and her husband were blessed with three additional children.

Luisa dedicated her life to raising her family and being a devout Catholic. She was a parishioner of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church from 1958 to 1964. She then joined the parish of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, was a member of the Guadalupanas, and served as a lector and Eucharistic minister. She was also very proud of achieving her goal in 1993 of becoming a United States citizen. Luisa was very active in the Senior Citizen Program at Ripley House and was crowned the Queen of the Seniors in 2005. She loved her trips to Coushatta with her friends and family.

A respected member of her community, Luisa is remembered for her wisdom, her engaging personality, her tenacity and strength. As the matriarch of our family, she was and will continue to be an inspiration to us all. She loved each of her children and family members unconditionally and never ceased in praying for us and always gave a blessing before we parted. Her unwavering faith, great story and joke telling, delicious cooking, and positive and cheerful personality, even when faced with challenges, will always serve as a shining example for us all.

Luisa was preceded in death by her husband, Victoriano Treviño and her daughter, MaryLou Treviño Lopez. She is survived by her children, Ramona Burns (Michael), Calixto Treviño (Rosemary), Mary Hurtado (Leonard), Magda T. Ortega, Victor Treviño (Silvia), Gloria Treviño Tudon (Wayne), John Treviño (Elma) and Nelly Treviño Santos (Tom), 20 grandchildren, 32 greatgrandchildren and 1 greatgreat-grandchild. She is also survived by her sister, Amelia Lopez de Perez (Manuel) of Monterrey, Mexico.

Friends are cordially invited to a visitation beginning at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 9, 2018, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 4015 Sherman St., Houston, Texas 77003, followed by a Rosary at 7:00 pm. The Mass Services will be held on Wednesday, January 10, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. Burial to follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery, 6900 Lawndale St., Houston, Texas 77023.
