TCU dismantles No. 7 West Virginia

FORT WORTH — Desmond Bane scored eight of his 15 points in just over a minute early in the second half, and TCU beat No. 7 West Virginia 82-73 on Monday night.

The Horned Frogs (15-5, 3-5 Big 12) got their first home win over a top 10 team in nearly five years on the same day they dropped out of the Associated Press Top 25 to end an eightweek run as a ranked team.

Jevon Carter had 16 points and Sagaba Konate 14 for West Virginia (16-4, 5-3), which lost for the third time in four games.

Alex Robinson had 17 points, nine assists and seven rebounds for TCU, and Kouat Noi had 13 points with three 3-pointers before being ejected because of a flagrant foul with just over 10 minutes left.

Bane’s quick burst, with two 3-pointers and a heady layup between those long-range shots, pushed TCU ahead 47-34 with 15:28 left.

KANSAS ST. 90, BAYLOR 83

Barry Brown scored 34 points, reigning Big 12 player of the week Dean Wade added 24, and the Wildcats beat the Bears at Waco for their third straight victory.

Kansas State (15-5, 5-3) made five of its first six 3-point attempts in running out to a 29-13 lead with eight minutes to go in the first half.

Baylor (12-8, 2-6) got within five points twice late in the first half, but a 16-3 run midway through the second half gave the Wildcats enough of a cushion at 71-52. Baylor was led by Manu Lecomte with 18 points.

VIRGINIA TECH 80 NORTH CAROLINA 69

Justin Robinson scored 19 points, and the host Hokies pulled away in the second half to beat the No. 10 Tar Heels.

Ahmed Hill added 18 points for Virginia Tech. Hill scored seven in a row to start a decisive 13-3 burst, which turned a 51-48 lead into a 64-51 advantage with just under eight minutes to go.

Joel Berry and Luke Maye scored 23 points each for the Tar Heels.

MICHIGAN ST. 87, ILLINOIS 74

Miles Bridges scored 31 points while hitting 11 of 13 shots to lead the No. 6 Spartans to a road victory.

OHIO ST. 64, NEBRASKA 59

Keita Bates-Diop scored 14 of his 20 points in the second half, and the No. 13 Buckeyes remained unbeaten in Big Ten play by beating the visiting Cornhusker­s.

PRAIRIE VIEW A&M 93 MISSISSIPP­I VALLEY ST. 77

Gary Blackston and Zachary Hamilton scored 26 points each to lead the Panthers to a home victory.

Women TEXAS A&M 69, LSU 59

Anriel Howard had 21 points and 14 rebounds, and the No. 15 Aggies overcame a three-point halftime deficit to beat the Tigers at College Station.

Khaalia Hillsman added 14 points. Jasmine Lumpkin had 10 points, eight rebounds and eight assists for A&M (16-5, 5-2 SEC).

Raigyne Louis had 18 points for LSU (12-6, 4-3).

MARYLAND 99, OHIO ST. 69

Kalia Charles scored a careerhigh 32 points, Eleanna Christinak­i added 26 with six 3-pointers, and the No. 14 Terrapins cruised past the 12th-ranked Buckeyes at College Park, Md., in a duel for first place in the Big Ten.

TEXAS SOUTHERN 58 ARKANSAS-PINE BLUFF 52

Joyce Kennerson struggled with her shot, going 3 of 19 from the field, but the 5-5 junior guard still managed to score 18 points to help the Lady Tigers win at the H&PE Arena.

TCU RETURNS AT NO. 24

After more than seven years out of the rankings, TCU entered the Associated Press women’s basketball poll at No. 24. The Horned Frogs (13-5) were last ranked on Nov. 22, 2010.
