Patrick gets car for Daytona 500
Danica Patrick will team with Premium Motorsports for next month’s Daytona 500 — the final race of her NASCAR career. She also plans to race in the Indianapolis 500 in May.
The one-race deal for next month’s NASCAR showcase will put Patrick in the seat of the No. 7 GoDaddy Chevrolet — the same number she drove when she entered stock-car racing in 2010.
Tony Eury Jr., her former crew chief, will return to Patrick’s pit box for her finale.
Premium Motorsports recently bought assets from Tommy Baldwin Racing. The No. 7 car will use Premium’s charter (the No. 15 car last year) to have a guaranteed spot in the Feb. 18 season opening event at Daytona International Speedway. The team will receive engineering support from Richard Childress Racing.
GoDaddy reunited with Patrick last week, agreeing to sponsor her cars for the final two races of her career. She announced her plans to race Daytona and Indy before she had rides.
The sponsorship from GoDaddy gives her additional funds to find seats in both races. The Indy team still has to be completed. Giants, filling the Giants’ top remaining void just a few weeks before pitchers and catchers report to spring training.
San Francisco announced the acquisition a week after trading for right fielder Andrew McCutchen.
