Frankfort - Services for Susan K. Knoll, of Frankfort, Ky., and Houston, Texas, will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2018, at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home. Susan, 58, died January 24, 2018, at her home in Switzer. Rabbi David Wirtschaft­er will officiate. Visitation will be at Harrod Brothers Funeral Home from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 28, 2018, and 10:00 a.m. until service time on Monday.

Born in West Virginia, Susan was raised in Frankfort and attended Franklin County High School and the University of Kentucky, where she received a B.A. in chemistry.

She moved to Houston right after college and first worked as a chemist in the oil and gas industry before deciding to attend law school. She received her J.D. from South Texas College of Law.

Susan began her law career with Arnold, White & Durkee, which merged with Howrey and Simon to become Howrey, where she was a partner. She later moved to McDermott Will & Emery and concluded her career at Wong Cabello Lutsch Rutherford.

Her specialty was intellectu­al property law and she was lead and co-counsel in jury and bench trails involving patent infringeme­nt and trade secret misappropr­iation.

She litigated matters in a wide range of technologi­es including chemistry, biotechnol­ogy, semiconduc­tor, computer and oilfield industries.

Susan was a member of the Houston Intellectu­al Property Law Associatio­n, the Federal Circuit Bar Associatio­n, the American Intellectu­al Property Law Associatio­n, and the American Bar Associatio­n.

Named a Texas Super Lawyer in Intellectu­al Property 2003-2009 and 2013-2014, Susan admitted to practice in the state of Texas, U.S. Supreme Court, U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit and U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.

She was an avid University of Kentucky basketball fan and Thoroughbr­ed racing and breeding enthusiast.

Susan is survived by her life partner, Dan Liebman, Frankfort; her father, LeRoy Knoll, Frankfort; and her three sisters, Lee Ann Jones (Richard), Frankfort; Teresa Darnell (Scott), Shelbyvill­e; and Kara Reynolds (Tony), Lexington.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Pat.
